Abstract: We studied the performances of the underwater neutrino telescope NEMO-KM3 equipped with direction-sensitive optical modules. The main feature of these optical modules is to detect the direction of the incoming Cherenkov light. In this note we show that the effective area of the underwater neutrino telescope NEMO-KM3 could be improved at low neutrino energies (E$_nu < 10$ TeV) by adding in the reconstruction procedure the information on the direction of the detected Cherenkov light. As a consequence we show that it is possibile to reduce the number of towers from 81 to 64 maintaining the same effective area of NEMO-KM3.
